Day 2 - Surface Mining Session - 11:30-11:55 - Dynamic charging interoperability – Towards a ‘plug-and-play’ solution

Dr Kwan Lee is a Principal Advisor with Group Technical at Rio Tinto. His area of focus is heavy mining equipment electrification, with a particular focus on charging infrastructure and systems. In addition to his work at Rio Tinto, Kwan has also been leading the Dynamic Charging Interface working group, which is part of the CharIN Mining Taskforce – a partnership between CharIN and the ICMM. Since 2012, he has been involved with cutting-edge technologies that are continuing to transform the resources industry. He has been involved with equipment automation, digitalisation/IoT, and now electrification (decarbonisation). Prior to joining the mining industry, Kwan was a researcher in semiconductor physics, working both in the industry and academia. Kwan is a Chartered Professional Engineer with Engineers Australia. He completed a Bachelor of Engineering/Bachelor of Science from the University of Sydney, followed by a Master of Engineering (Research) from the University of New South Wales and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Oxford. Kwan is also undertaking a Masters of Business Administration at the Queensland University of Technology.
