Julian Soles is Chief Executive Officer of First Mode, the pioneering developer and manufacturer of decarbonisation solutions for heavy industry, including retrofit products that convert diesel powertrains into diesel hybrid, battery electric, or hydrogen fuel cell systems. Prior to First Mode, Julian served long tenures at GlobalSantaFe, Transocean, and most recently, as Head of the nuGen™ Technology Group at Anglo American. In that role, he hired First Mode – then an engineering-services firm – to help design and build the world’s first and largest zero emissions fuel cell haulage solution. Following this success, plus a capital investment and supply agreement with Anglo American, Julian led the nuGen Technology Group’s merger with First Mode to form the company that he leads today. He earned his B.E. in Naval Architecture and Offshore Engineering from University College London, M.B.A from the University of Houston, and a Business Management Certificate from Harvard Business School.
